kyocera duraxv extreme: a good amount of phone

the kyocera duraxv extreme has been the main phone i've carried since around late 2022. this was also around the time i first started to get into the indie web community and other means of embracing disconnection online.

before i had realized that dumbphones were a viable option, my main cellphone of choice was a beat to shit iphone xr that was really starting to show its flaws. certain apps didn't run, the smartphone itself had gotten damaged over time, etc. i feel like on some level i've always hated the idea of having so much information on me at all times, it's just that i didn't have the words or capacity to express it at that time.

come mid-2022 and a few personal developments later, i discovered the modern dumbphone movement and the broader shift among some tech-interested folk towards less integrated devices. i was immediately on board but it'd be a few months before i obtained a basic cellphone of my own.

FEATURES I LIKE

-runs a degoogled version of android, has support for modern apps if necessary [it usually isn't]
-rugged build means i can drop it or throw it around with no worries
-really loud speakerphone. given the intended userbase of this leans towards commercial applications it makes sense but it's still nice
-camera is pretty good considering it's a literal flip phone
-PHYSICAL HEADPHONE JACK i know people get annoying about this one sometimes but it's true. i hate that they're such an afterthought these days
